We have been building itineraries out of La Fortuna since 2016. A custom trip is not a package with your name on it — it is a plan shaped around your dates, your pace and how far you actually want to drive in a day.

Most itineraries go through two or three rounds. Swap a destination, add a rest day, move the beach section to the end, cut a long drive. There is no charge for revisions and no obligation to book.

Questions people ask before they send the form
How much does a custom Costa Rica trip cost?
It depends almost entirely on hotels and how much private transport you want. As a rough guide, a fully guided trip with mid-range hotels and private transfers tends to land between $180 and $280 per person per day, with two people sharing. Shared shuttles and simpler lodging bring that down; boutique lodges push it up. The quote we send is itemised so you can see exactly what each choice costs.
How far ahead should I plan?
For travel between mid-December and April, or over Easter week, three to six months ahead — the good hotels in La Fortuna and Monteverde sell out first. For the green season, May to November, six to eight weeks is usually comfortable. We do build trips at shorter notice; there is simply less choice of lodging.
Is there a charge for the itinerary or the revisions?
No. Planning, quoting and revising the itinerary are free, and there is no obligation to book at the end of it. We only charge once you confirm the trip.
How many days do I need in Costa Rica?
Seven nights lets you do two regions properly — typically Arenal plus either the cloud forest or a coast. Ten nights covers three regions without a rushed day. Under five nights we would recommend basing yourself in one place, usually La Fortuna, and doing day trips from there.
Can you plan a trip for a family, or for a large group?
Yes, and both are common. For families we pace the activity days, check age and weight minimums on things like ziplining, and build in unstructured time. For groups we quote private vehicles and guides for the whole party — our ready-made group itineraries scale from about 8 to 20 travellers.
Do I need a rental car?
Usually not. Every tour includes hotel pickup, and private transfers between destinations generally cost less than a 4x4 rental plus fuel, parking and the insurance excess — and you get a driver who knows the roads. A car makes sense if you want to explore remote areas on your own schedule.
What if I already know where I want to go?
Even better. Send us the destinations and dates in the form and we will price it as written, then flag anything that will not work well — a drive that is longer than it looks on a map, a park that closes on Mondays, a beach that is four hours out of your way.
