Frequently asked questions
Who is this 10-day itinerary best suited to?+
Travellers who want breadth rather than depth in one place, and who put wildlife first. Four ecosystems in ten days means a transfer roughly every second or third day, so it suits people who like moving. If you would rather settle in one or two spots, our 3-day La Fortuna package or a custom itinerary will serve you better.
What is included in the price?+
Private transfers between all destinations, lodges and hotels with breakfast, the guided and shared activities listed in the day-by-day itinerary, and guides, equipment, drinking water and park fees on those tours. Some meals are included depending on the activity. International flights, unlisted meals, tips and travel insurance are not.
How much driving is involved?+
The longest single transfer is Monteverde to Manuel Antonio, around 4 hours. Most legs run 2 to 3.5 hours, and the Arenal-to-Monteverde leg is the van-boat-van lake crossing, which replaces the roughest gravel road with a scenic boat ride. All transfers are private, so you set the departure times and stop when you want.
What is the best time of year to book this trip?+
Mid-December to April is the dry season, with the clearest Arenal views and the most stable Pacific weather. May to November brings fewer people, greener forest and better rates, with rain that usually falls in the afternoon. September and October are the wettest on the Pacific but excellent for wildlife.
Can the itinerary be adjusted?+
Yes — this is a template, not a fixed departure. We build it around your dates, your group and your pace: swap a hot springs evening for a canyoning day, add nights anywhere, upgrade the lodges, or drop a destination entirely. Send us the itinerary with your notes and we will quote the revised version.
How fit do I need to be?+
Moderately. The longest walks are the Arenal Volcano hike and the La Selva trails, both a few hours on uneven but non-technical ground. There is no altitude concern and nothing is technically difficult. Everything can be paced down; tell us about mobility limits and we will adjust the activity list.
